Energy Cleansing for Your Room — the gentle room-reset ritual, Bad Bitch Vibes

You know that feeling when you walk into a room and it just feels… heavy? Nothing is technically wrong. The furniture hasn't moved. But the room feels like it's holding onto the argument from Tuesday, the sick day from last week, and about fourteen busy days in a row.

Rooms hold onto things, love. Not in a spooky way — in a lived-in way. So every so often, I reset mine. Not a deep clean (that's a different Saturday). This is the gentle version: six little steps, about twenty minutes, and the whole space feels like it took a deep breath and let it out.

Here's my room-reset ritual, in the order I actually do it.

What you need

Nothing fancy, and you probably own most of it already:

  • A candle you love the smell of — this ribbed amber glass candle style is my current favorite, and plain pillar candles work beautifully too
  • A small tray to hold your crystals — a little brass tray makes it feel like a moment instead of a pile
  • A few crystals (step 4 walks you through my four)
  • Fresh flowers or a plant you already have
  • Optional: your journal and something warm to sip

1. Open the windows

Always first. Throw the windows open — even just for ten minutes, even in weather that makes you question your choices — and let the fresh air and the light do their work. Stale air out, fresh air in. It's the simplest step on this list and somehow the one that changes the room the fastest.

I open them before I do anything else, because everything after this step lands better in a room that's breathing. If it's truly freezing or pouring, crack them for five minutes while you tidy. The ritual is forgiving. It's the intention that counts.

2. Light a candle

Then I light the candle, and I don't just strike the match on autopilot — I think about why I'm doing this while I do it. The flame is my little flag that says: we're resetting this room now. Warmth, clarity, a fresh start, right there in one small glow.

Set it somewhere you'll see it while you work through the next steps, and let it burn for the rest of the ritual. One practical note from a woman who loves you: candles and curtains are not friends, and no candle burns unattended in my house. Pretty and sensible — we can be both.

3. Tidy & declutter

Here's the unglamorous truth in the middle of the pretty ritual: energy flows better in a room it can actually move through. Piles and clutter are just stuck places. So I clear the surfaces — the chair that became a closet, the corner stack of "I'll deal with that later," the counter that collects everything.

This is not a deep clean and it is not a whole afternoon. One bag for trash, one bag for things that belong somewhere else, surfaces wiped and clear. Twenty honest minutes. When the surfaces breathe, the whole room does.

Glow-Up Tip: Set a timer for ten minutes and do ONE surface at a time — just the dresser, just the one chair. A room reset should leave you calmer than you started, not staring at a bigger mess. Small and finished beats big and abandoned every single time.

4. Place your crystals

Now the fun part. I set my tray where the room will actually see it — a shelf, the dresser, beside the bed — and I place my four regulars. These are the traditional associations women have worked with for generations, and they're the ones I reach for:

  • Clear quartz point — the amplifier. It carries the intention for the whole room, so it goes in the center.
  • Amethyst cluster — the calm one. Peaceful evenings, quieter energy, softer edges on the day.
  • Rose quartz — the love stone. It makes a room feel kind, and I want every room in my house to feel kind.
  • A dark protective stone — black obsidian is mine. Steady, grounding, no-nonsense. It sits on the door side of the tray, like a little guard.

If your stones have been sitting out collecting dust and everybody else's day, give them a quick cleanse first — my 8 Ways to Cleanse Your Crystals walks through every method I use. And if you're building your own tray from scratch, the Rough Amethyst Loose Stone from my own Bad Bitch Vibes shop is exactly the size I like to start with — one stone, one meaning card, endless rearranging.

5. Bring in nature

A room with something alive in it feels alive. Simple as that. I set a small vase of fresh flowers where I'll walk past them all day, or I move a plant into the corner that needed a little life. Grocery store flowers count. A clipping from your own yard in a jam jar counts double.

This is also the step that keeps the reset going after the ritual ends — every time you see those flowers this week, your brain gets the little reminder: oh right, we reset this room. It feels good in here.

6. Set your intention

Last step, and it's the one that turns a tidy room into a reset room. I sit down — usually at my desk with my journal open and something warm in a mug — close my eyes, take one slow breath, and I say the energy I want this room to hold. Out loud. It feels a little silly the first time, and then it doesn't.

Mine sound like this: This room is calm, and so am I. Or: Good things happen in this room. Short, present tense, like it's already true. If you want to go one layer deeper and set an intention into the crystals themselves, that's exactly what my How to Program a Crystal post is for. And if a journal line helps you seal it, write the one sentence at the top of today's page and let that be enough.

How often I do this

More often than you'd think, because it asks so little. I do the full reset at the change of every season, after anybody's been sick in the house, after a stretch of houseguests (loved them, and also — reset), and on a new moon when I happen to catch it, because a fresh-start moon and a fresh-start room just belong together. In between, the mini version is just steps 1 and 2: windows open, candle lit, ten minutes while the coffee brews.

Do this often, love. Your space holds you — it's where you wake up, where you land at the end of the day, where your whole life gets lived. It deserves to feel as good as you're asking it to make you feel.

Tell me in the comments: which room in your house is getting the reset first?
